<body>
<p>Random and intermittent shocks generated by large-scale wind farms continue to affect the safe and stable operations of power systems significantly (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Hong et al., 2024</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Li et al., 2024</xref>); hence, it is necessary to investigate the impacts of complex terrains on wind power outputs and mechanisms to improve their prediction accuracies. To this end, we host this Research Topic that contains nine final articles. Among these works, <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2024.1379863">Kristianti et al.</ext-link> investigated the influences of air flow features on alpine wind energy potential. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2024.1346369">Man et al.</ext-link> proposed a multidevice wind turbine power generation forecasting model aimed at wind farms. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1321917">Zhang et al.</ext-link> present a meta reservoir computing method while <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1328899">Konstantinou and Hatziargyriou</ext-link> establish a model combining convolutional neural networks and DeepSHAP to enhance the accuracy of wind power forecasting. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1326248">Wang et al.</ext-link> present an incremental feedforward collective pitch control method for the wind turbine. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1305612">Zhou et al.</ext-link> propose an interval model for the wind turbine power curve. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1334588">Xu et al.</ext-link> survey some energy management strategies for a loop microgrid with wind energy prediction and energy storage systems. <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1298088">Wang and Liao</ext-link> propose a short-term hybrid prediction model for wind speed prediction. Finally, <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fenrg.2023.1239973">Gao et al.</ext-link> present a detailed review of the interval reservoir computing approach and examine some case studies. Overall, these articles cover a wide range of research topics and provide highly valuable research methods and models that are expected to serve as excellent references for researchers working on related research topics, particularly those related to the impacts of complex terrains on wind power outputs and mechanisms to improve their prediction accuracies.</p>
